Hits: Date:2025-12-05 15:48

October 4, 2025 | JiuquanConquering 121 kilometers in four days and three nights, the journey from the Ashoka Temple to the Gobi Spring was more than a physical crossing; it was an extreme test of will and a pilgrimage of the spirit. The Gobi 20 team from the School of Economics and Management (SEM) at Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) has returned with top honors from the 20th Xuanzang Road Business School Ultra Gobi Challenge, with all members completing the race safely.

The team’s success was powered by strong support from the university and the school, and inspired by the presence of Ms. JIANG Jia, Secretary of the CPC SEM Committee, who accompanied the racers every step of the way.

Unwavering Institutional Support

SWJTU and SEM leadership view the Gobi Challenge as a vital platform for building student character, strengthening alumni bonds, and showcasing the school’s ethos. Providing everything from training resources to logistical support, the university and the school have always been the team’s most solid backing.

Honors Forged in the Crucible of the Desert

The race unfolded in an extreme environment defined by a scorching sun, biting sandstorms, and treacherous saline-alkali soil. Each day was a grueling test of physical and mental fortitude. It was in these harsh conditions that the SWJTU team’s resilience and unity shone through.

The Shackleton Award: This highest honor, celebrating teamwork and the commitment to leave no one behind, was earned through every helping hand, every hoarse cheer of encouragement, and every patient wait for a teammate pushing their limits.

Runner-up, A+ Men’s Elite Group: Facing fierce competition, TUO Shousheng clinched the runner-up title through sheer strength and determination, once again showcasing the renowned “SWJTU Speed”.

“Striving Award,” EMBA Group: The eight members of the Gobi 20 A-Team gave their absolute all, consistently breaking their own boundaries to earn an award forged in grit and sweat.

A Legendary Journey of Perseverance

The ancient vow of the monk Xuanzang—“I would rather die heading west than live returning east”—echoed across the desert. The A-Team members were true heroes, pushing their limits for the competition, while the B-Team advanced together as their own warriors. The C-Team and service crews provided tireless support, ensuring the entire team’s well-being.

More than a race, this was a journey of the soul that tested their ideals, demanded action, and ultimately forged a spirit of persistence and transcendence. By supporting one another through the elements, they paid tribute to the spirit of Xuanzang and offered a profound gift for SWJTU’s upcoming 130th anniversary.

Though the Gobi 20 journey is over, its spirit endures as an indelible mark on every participant. The glory belongs to each team member and to the entire SWJTU community, who embody the spirit of never giving up. We look forward to Gobi 21 and the next chapter of SWJTU’s legacy in the Gobi Desert.
